Dr Vasantha Jayaraman has an overall of 22 years and also has an academic Experience of 15 years. She is currently working as a Consultant Psychiatrist. She is a part of the Crisis Intervention Team (which consists of psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers and staff nurses), which tackles emergency psychiatric conditions like violence and suicide attempt. Her treatment strategy in emergency situations includes evaluation of the mental status and physical status followed by management with medication. She has managed patients with alcoholism, opiate dependence, cannabis dependence, etc. She has also managed patients with adjustment problems, stress related disorders, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychotic conditions (schizophrenia etc) and mania. She has conducted separate clinics for patients with frequent relapses of psychotic conditions, where specific focus is on prevention of relapse. She has the skills to work with the paramedical staff, non-medical staff of the mental health team and medical staff of other departments. She has conducted several community out-reach programmes and given lectures on detection of psychiatric problems to primary care physicians and also has written articles in the print media and spoken in the electronic media on mental health.
