Gleneagles Global Health City Along With Commissionerate Of Tambaram Kicks Off A Road Safety Awareness Campaign

22nd April, Chennai: Gleneagles Global Health City (GGHC), a leading multi-speciality centre in Chennai, has organised a road safety programme in collaboration with Tambaram Police Commissionerate at Uthandi Toll on East Coast Road, Chennai in the presence of Mr. M. Ravi, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Tambaram. This initiative is taken to create awareness about road safety.

Statistics from the State Transport Department of Tamil Nadu show that 14,912 people died in accidents in 2021, compared to 10,525 in 2019, and just 8,060 in 2020 on the roads of TN. While taking a small step towards achieving maximum road safety and keeping the death rate low especially along the ECR where the rate of road accidents are higher, doctors from GGHC have conducted a workshop for commuters on the importance of road safety and the do’s & don’ts while driving. Furthermore, all the commuters wearing seat belt and following best practices were rewarded by the officials with a rose along with a complimentary ‘Express health check’ voucher from Gleneagles Global Health City as a gesture of good will.

“The ECR and Tambaram region has witnessed a spate of road accidents in the past few years. Over speeding, driving with high beam lights on and without seat belts, and riding without a helmet are some of the main causes of these accidents. Such awareness camps on road safety need to be conducted periodically to drive home the message of safe driving.” said Mr. M. Ravi, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Tambaram.

Dr. Sriram, HOD & Senior Consultant – Department of Accident, Emergency and Trauma care, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, said, “Simple precautionary steps while driving go a long way in saving one’s life. We at GGHC come across various cases of trauma and most of these cases are a result of the victims not adhering to these basic tenets of road safety. Additionally, the public needs to be aware about the emergency care that needs to be given to a patient.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alok Khullar, CEO, Gleneagles Global Health City, said, “Statistics state that 10% of fatalities across the city are due to road accidents specifically on highways. There is a huge need to create awareness about road safety in India. We are proud to collaborate with the Tambaram Police Commissionerate to run an awareness campaign at this level. We hope that people realise the need for safe driving for the betterment of themselves and the society.”
