Gleneagles Global Health City Launches A Centre For Diabetes Expertise (CODE)
~ The newly launched CODE program would be a one-stop solution for all diabetic needs and promote effective management of diabetes
Chennai, 12th April 2021: Gleneagles Global Health City (GGHC) has launched an exclusive Centre for Diabetes Expertise (CODE) that will help patients with diabetes and for those suffering from unmanageable diabetes due the pandemic situation. CODE is a specialised program that will address all categories of diabetes namely pre-diabetes, long term diabetes, gestational diabetes and critical diabetic complications. The centre will be headed by Dr. Ashwin Karuppan V, Consultant and Dr. Aafrin Shabbir, Consultant – Department of Internal Medicine and Diabetology.
The CODE program is built on recent advancements in medical therapy and reversal of complications that would help the diabetic patients to manage their chronic condition. CODE has been launched for patients who have not taken timely medical advice to treat the various complications that were caused due to uncontrolled diabetes. Comprising of a core team of specialists and superior infrastructure, the program aims to provide excellence in diabetic care and a one-stop solution for all diabetic needs.
Speaking on the launch, Dr. Ashwin Karuppan V, Consultant – Department of Internal Medicine and Diabetology, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai said, “Diabetes’ burden on the society is underestimated and has been the leading cause of preventable deaths in healthcare. Diabetes Mellitus has been one of the leading chronic conditions which has affected millions, world-wide. As per data reports in India, every 4 in 10 people may suffer from diabetes and India will soon become the world capital for Diabetes by 2025. Complications that arise due to diabetes have increased the burden on healthcare by accounting for 50% of in-patient admissions. Pandemic has resulted in a peculiar situation where in patients have not taken timely advice resulting in further diabetic complications. While most of these complications are preventable by good control of diabetes, the awareness for the same is still lacking. A holistic approach towards treating diabetes and its complications is the current need of the hour.
